Today's "Top of the Blog" Comment

We left Rocky Mountain National Park for home today shortly before Noon after getting a phone call that Ellen Foyle passed away this (Saturday) morning.
We were just ready to start a 5 day camping stay inside the park but in no way could we enjoy that special event knowing we would not be there for Ellen and her family.
Within 90 minutes of getting the phone call we were on the road heading home.
We drove 400 of the 1200 miles to get home today and will be home on Monday.
This is probably the end of the blog.

From within we can only say that Ellen Foyle holds a very special place in our hearts and she will be deeply missed.
Love, Ellen & Jim

Sunday & Monday in Deadwood

We left Custer State Park yesterday and drove South to Wind Cave National Park to "bag" another National Park.  Had hoped to take a quick cave tour but being a holiday weekend we needed to wait 90 minutes to get on the next tour, which would have been another 90 minutes in itself.  Wanting to make Deadwood, back up North, by late afternoon we opted not to tour the cave and left for Deadwood.  Also complicating the issue was the heat.  About 90 out and no shade to park the RV's in to keep the dogs safe.

So we had a nice 110 mile drive through the very scenic Black Hills of South Dakota.  Made Deadwood in good time and found a clean RV park to stay at close to town.  Quickly settled in but the call of historic downtown Deadwood was too much.  We went in for an early buffalo steak dinner and then out to gamble.  There are so many bars here they don't even name them - they simply number them!

Mike and I headed for the Blackjack table and Ellen for video poker.  Cindy supervised our play.  Mike started off hot but the cards soon took his stake.  I had a decent run of luck and when Mike quit it was my excuse to walk away a winner.  Ellen walked out of the casino swearing.

We wanted to stop at Buffalo Bill's grave before it got dark so we headed back.  Got to the grave and Calamity Jane was buried right there next to him as was her dying wish.

I've been down with a bad cough and cold and not much in the way of good company the last few days.  I just wanted to get back to the RV and lay down.  I did just that.  Ellen, Cindy, and Mike made a fire.

Overnight, Cindy and Mike made plans to leave today and head home.  I guess they had enough of my coughing and runny nose.  So at 9:30 this morning they were pulling out and headed East.  We are staying here in Deadwood a second night.  Ellen is doing laundry.  I'm updating the blog.  We both plan on just resting today and hope to get in a little better health before getting into the higher elevations and colder temperatures of the Rocky's.

I guess that's about it.
